Greetings from Malaysia! This is sort of my last break/trip of the semester, setting aside our class trip to Vietnam and my side trip to Australia. So I suppose that isn't a very good stat, but in any case I've had my last Thai overnight bus ride, which was to Satun, on the southwest corner of the country. The Thai-Malaysia border is very violent, so we bypassed it altogether by taking a ferry across to the island of Langkawi.
Langkawi is basically a beach resort island, but it was still nice, and we spent a night there before catching another ferry this afternoon to the island of Penang. Once everyone meets up here, our group will be six people, and we'll continue south to Kuala Lumpur before flying back to Bangkok. I've liked Malaysia a lot so far. It's a Muslim country, and the women wear traditional headscarves - making it a little odd with bikini-clad tourists strolling by the locals. Still, everyone is very nice and receptive to travelers.
I don't have much else to say right now, but I'll report on the rest of the trip when I get back.
